Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between career planning levels and leadership self-efficacy of prospective sports managers within the context of various demographic variables. The population of the study consists of individuals aged 18 and above who are prospective sports managers, while the sample comprises 275 students enrolled in the Department of Sports Management. Data were collected using a personal information form, the Career Planning Scale, and the Leadership Self-Efficacy Scale. Because the study aims to examine the relationship between career planning and leadership self-efficacy among prospective sports managers, the relational survey model was employed as the research design. The findings indicate that gender and family income level do not create a statistically significant difference in career planning and leadership self-efficacy. It was found that prospective sports managers engaged in individual sports reported significantly higher perceptions of educational adequacy compared to those involved in team sports. Participants who had received career awareness training demonstrated higher scores in the dimensions of correctness of choice and educational adequacy. Moreover, prospective sports managers who were national athletes exhibited significantly higher levels of career planning than their non-national counterparts. While leadership self-efficacy levels differed significantly according to age, no age-related differences were observed in career planning levels. With respect to class level, a significant difference was identified only in the dimension of career-related belief. Correlation analysis revealed a weak but statistically significant positive relationship between leadership self-efficacy and career planning. Furthermore, regression analysis demonstrated that leadership self-efficacy significantly predicts career planning. In conclusion, the study highlights leadership self-efficacy as a critical psychosocial determinant in the career development processes of prospective sports managers and emphasizes the necessity of systematic interventions aimed at strengthening leadership development and career awareness within sports management education programs.
