Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the perceived levels of innovation competency among youth center managers and to determine how these perceptions vary according to demographic characteristics and professional roles. The study was conducted using the survey model, one of the quantitative research methods. The sample consisted of 1,089 individuals working in 220 Youth Centers across Türkiye as of 2016, who participated voluntarily. The data collection tool used in the study was the “Innovation Competency Scale” developed by Eraslan (2015). According to the findings, no statistically significant differences were found in perceptions of innovation competency based on gender or marital status. However, significant differences were observed in innovation competency scores in relation to variables such as age, educational background, and professional position. In particular, individuals with undergraduate and postgraduate education levels evaluated youth center managers as more innovative. Likewise, participants who work more closely with managers such as youth leaders and sports experts perceived higher levels of openness to change and innovativeness. Additionally, similar differences were identified in the sub-dimension of sensitivity to change based on various demographic factors. The findings suggest that perceptions of innovation competency are shaped not only by individual traits but also by organizational position and functional roles. It is recommended that the results be considered in the development of managerial policies for youth services.
