Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the attitudes of physical education teacher candidates undergoing pedagogical training towards the teaching profession in terms of various demographic variables. The population of the study consists of physical education teacher candidates undergoing pedagogical training in Istanbul. The sample group consisted of 377 volunteer students from the Faculty of Sports Sciences at a university's education faculty who were undergoing pedagogical training and were selected at random. The study data were obtained through a personal information form and a physical education teaching profession attitude scale (BEÖYTÖ). The data were analysed using the SPSS 25.0 software package, with a significance level set at 0.05. According to the findings obtained as a result of the study, it was determined that female teacher candidates developed a more positive and respectful attitude towards the profession. In addition, when looking at the average scores, it was concluded that the highest level of respect was found among participants aged 25 and above. Another result was that in the sub-dimension of Respect for the Profession, the average scores of working students were significantly higher than those of non-working students.
