The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of basic swimming training provided to girls in need of care on their self-confidence and self-esteem. The study was conducted using a phenomenological design within the framework of qualitative research. The study group consisted of 10 girls in need of care residing in a Children’s Homes Site in the province of Samsun. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews conducted before and after the swimming training process. The obtained data were analyzed using the content analysis method. The findings indicated a significant increase in participants’ levels of self-confidence and self-esteem following the basic swimming training. It was determined that participants’ social communication skills improved, they perceived themselves as more competent and valuable, they were able to make healthier decisions in problem situations, and they expressed themselves more comfortably in social environments. In addition, the swimming training was found to have positive effects on participants’ body image and self-perception. In conclusion, the basic swimming training implemented for girls in need of care provides significant contributions to psychosocial development and serves as an effective tool in supporting self-confidence and self-esteem.
